Maluka Escape is a proud Indigenous-owned and operated tourism company, offering unforgettable, all-inclusive, culturally immersive experiences in Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait). Founded by Richard and Jillian Bowie, the business combines marine transport, fishing adventures, guided tours, cultural storytelling, on-country camping, and in time, glamping accommodation.
Offering unforgettable eco-cultural adventures across the inner islands and western cluster of the Torres Strait, our salt and sand getaways are a seafarer’s dream — the perfect way to step away from the hustle and bustle of land life and immerse yourself in the ocean.
In Kala Lagaw Ya language, Maluka means “into the ocean” — and that’s exactly where our story begins. Seafaring is at the heart of who we are, rooted in generations of Torres Strait Islanders who have navigated these waters, traded with neighbouring islands and coastal villages, and thrived through our deep connection to the sea.
With Maluka Escape, you’ll experience the very best of life on the water – from fishing trips to island-hopping cultural tours, billy tea and damper on the beach, camping and yarns with locals. If the tides are in your favour, you might even feast on freshly caught seafood, from ocean to plate, prepared for you the island way.
Based on Badu Island, the second-largest community after Thursday Island, we are perfectly placed to share the beauty, culture, and adventure of this remarkable region. Whether you’re here for the thrill of the catch, the taste of the sea, or the stories of our people, Maluka Escape is your gateway to the salt and sand experience of a lifetime.
